What is RPL

What is RPL

According to ASQA is the national regulator for Australia’s vocational education and training sector, Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a process that assesses your competency—acquired through formal and informal learning—to determine if you meet the requirements for a unit of study.

You can use a variety of documentation to apply for RPL. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • records of completed training
  • assessment items
  • assessment records
  • declarations from your employer, and/or
  • a copy of your student records provided by ASQA.

Each provider has its own RPL process, so when you are accepted by a new provider, speak to your new provider for assistance with applying for RPL.

Why you should consider RPL

The process of applying your previous experiences’ skills and knowledge to the requirements of the current training course is known as “Recognition of Prior Learning” (RPL). By providing evidence of your relevant knowledge and skills, you can earn qualifications through RPL.

Benefits of Recognition Of Prior Learning

Instead of wasting time studying what you already know, you can save time by translating your existing skills into a qualification. Don’t worry if the RPL process reveals a lack of skill in you! We can also be of assistance by providing instructions for the required credential. You’ll get your certification sooner If you translate your experiences, you’ll get your certification much sooner. It will still be a much quicker process than completing an entire training course, even if you are lacking in some areas and need to supplement it with training to complete your qualification. As a result, you’ll be able to start your new job much sooner.

You will receive a qualification that is recognized throughout the country Going through the RPL process does not diminish the authority of your qualification. You will be able to pursue your chosen career anywhere in Australia because your qualification will be recognized nationally. It is also recognized by all other Registered Training Organizations, including TAFE Colleges because it is issued under the Australian Qualification Framework.

Hard copies are sent to your postal address, while electronic copies are sent to your email address.

Frequently Asked RPL Questions

All of your relevant skills, knowledge, and experience are taken into account during the RPL process.

You might be able to complete a qualification through the RPL process or, if you don’t know enough, get parts of a qualification. You can complete the remainder of the qualification through training if necessary.

This will be contingent on the amount of RPL you apply for. Your RTO assessor can tell you how long it will likely take you to finish your RPL process.

Trades Recognition Australia-accredited RTOs evaluate a variety of trade occupations for overseas skilled migrants to Australia. Through its Trades Recognition Services program, TRA also provides assessments in a number of metal and electrical trades to Australian citizens and residents who have acquired skills abroad.

Before submitting your application to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, you may need to have your skills evaluated by the appropriate Australian assessing authority if you intend to migrate to Australia.

Trade occupations can be evaluated for migration purposes by a number of TRA-approved RTOs. You will receive an Australian qualification (for non-licensed trades) or an Offshore Technical Skills Record (for licensed trades) and a successful outcome letter if your skills assessment is successful.
